The 12-day Manaslu Short Trek is the best way to witness the exotic beauty of the Manaslu Conservation Area. It's an economical and most accessible way to get views of pristine landscapes and a rich cultural heritage of beautiful Manaslu Region.

Commence the journey with a scenic drive to Machhakhola, and then start trekking through beautiful villages, dense forests, and along roaring rivers toward Samagaun. The culmination of this fantastic journey is reaching the Larke La Pass, from where you will get an opportunity to revel in breathtaking views of towering peaks like Dhaulagiri 8,167m and Annapurna 8,091m.

Further up the way, you will be soaking in the local culture when stopping at many of the ancient monasteries and getting a feel for the communities of Gurung and Tibetan villages. Varied landscapes ranging from lush forests to high-altitude deserts keep changing throughout the vistas.

This 12-day adventure encompasses unforgettable memories and a true connection with this enchanting area. Towards the end of this trek, not only will you have seen the raw beauty of Manaslu but also come back with a great sense of achievement.

DAY 1

Kathmandu (1,400 m) to Arughat (700 m) to Soti Khola (700 m)

We start our journey from Kathmandu and reach Arughat after 7-9 hrs in a cab or a local bus.

After reaching Arughat, we continue our trip to Soti Khola by changing our mode of transportation. During the drive, you can enjoy the views of Ganesh Himal (‎7,422 m) in the right, Annapurna in the left, and Manaslu range in the middle.

DAY 2

Soti Khola (700 m) to Maccha Khola (930 m)

On the second day we drive from Soti Khola to Machha Khola which lies at a distance of 15 km. Visit the army camp located further away from Soti Khola.

You can also visit Khursani Baari, which is famous for its green chillies. From there you can also see a 100 m waterfall on the opposite side. 

On the way, you can catch a glimpse of a disastrous landslide caused by 2015's earthquake.

DAY 3

Maccha Khola (930 m) to Jagat (1,000 m)

After identifying yourself at the police checkpoint in Maccha Khola, we head towards Jagat which lies 22 km away. During the walk, you can enjoy a dip at the hot spring which lies on the way.

Before reaching Jagat, enjoy the spectacular view of a suspension bridge over Yaru Bagar. The bridge is 158 m long and is the first of its kind in Nepal.

DAY 4

Jagat (1,000 m) to Deng (1,860 m)

From Jagat, we head towards Deng in the morning. There'll be a short routine check-in at upper-Jagat, and then we walk to Salleri, which is 40 mins away.

On the way, you'll see rivers and two hydro-powers. We then reach Sirdibas, a community of the native Gurung. From there you can see Mt. Siring which has a height of 7,239 m.

We then cross a suspension bridge which leads to Philim after a short 25 mins walk. Philim houses all the administrative houses; police stations, land revenue offices, etc..

After Philim we hike to Chisapani where we take a recess for lunch. The trail then leads to Naykphedi and Pewa, where'll be required to cross two suspension bridges. 
It takes 45 mins from Pewa to reach Deng.

DAY 5

Deng (1,860 m) to Namrung (2,630 m)

Have breakfast at Deng and then continue trekking down following the Budhi Gandaki River and then climb to Rana Gaon. Bihiphedi lies just 1 hr away from Rana Gaon after which we hike to Gap where we stop for lunch.

After lunch we walk through thick green forests and reach Namrung, passing Suksum on the way. We reach Namrung where you can lodge at a resort which costs about $35 for lodging and other extra charges for food.

From Namrung, you can enjoy the views of Saula Himal (6,235 m) and Himalchuli Range ( 7,893 m).

DAY 6

Namrung (2,630 m) to Samagaun (3,580 m)

Passing Banjam, Lihi, Sho, Lho, and Sayla, we reach Samagaun, but before reaching our main destination, we come across a Buddhist monastery that houses 200 Tibetan monks.

We then move along watching the views of Ganesh Himal, north Himchuli (6,441 m), and Naike. After crossing Sayla, we get to see the remarkable aspects of Nadi Chuli Manaslu, north Manaslu, Saula Himal, Naike peak, and Siringi Himal.

Sayla is a grazing pasture for years and is the biggest village in the region whose history dates back to 200 years.

DAY 7

Acclimatization at Samagaun

Today we take a day off from our 12 days trek and acclimatize at Samagaun. During the day, you can visit places like Birendra Tal (3 km), Basecamp (6 km), and Pungen monastery (6-7 km).

DAY 8

Samagaun (3,580 m) to Samdo (3,690 m)

From Samagaun we hike for three hours to reach Samdo. Along the way, you can see Syaula Peak, Manaslu, Larke peak, Himchuli, Cho, and Naike Peak.

Samdo is a small village that lies at the height of 3,690 m. The community is facilitated with electricity generated from its miniature hydro-power.

DAY 9

Samdo (3,690 m) to Dharmashala

After a quick breakfast, we descend to Budhi Gandaki River and then cross a suspension bridge. We then move up to Larkya Bazaar and enter the valley of Salka Khola towards Dharmasala. The place is also known as Larke Phedi.

DAY 10

Dharmasala to Bhimtang (3,590 m)

We start early at about 3 am to watch the sunrise from the peaks of Annapurna II (7,937 m), Kangaroo Himal, Himlung Himal (7,140 m), Cho Himal (8,201 m), and many others. It takes about 9 hrs to reach Bhimtang.

DAY 11

Bhimtang (3,590 m) to Dharapani (1,860 m)

Its the last day where we walk down to reach Dharapani. The path descends to Dudh Khola, and we then enter a forest that is full of rhododendrons of 8-10 different colours.

Have lunch at Surkhi and then again ascend and descend to Goa. After a few minutes of walk from Goa, we reach Mane, Tiliche, and finally Dharapani.

DAY 12

Dharapani (1,860 m) To Kathmandu (1,400 m)

Last day of the 12 Days Manaslu Short trek, we take a jeep or a bus back to the capital city. We first reach Besisahar, then drive along the river banks of Marsyangdi Khola and Trishuli River.

Good To Know

Carry all the necessary items you'd require during the trek in your daypack. Our porters will only carry 20-25 kg from the big bag.
