The trekking journey to the Everest Base Camp by taking the route that passes from Phaplu Chola Pass will give you the same feeling as you get when you take the long way to a destination just to enjoy the journey a little longer. Phaplu Chola Pass is a less- traveled route and the reason it is loved by travelers so much is because of the lesser crowded, unspoiled environment it has to offer to the trekkers. The Everest Base Camp trek en route Phaplu Chola Pass adds a different kind of thrill, adventure and excitement besides the solitude.
Before you start your trekking journey you need to first reach Phaplu village from Kathmandu by drive from where you start trekking to the Everest base camp region. You are going to love the experience of your travel journey starting from Kathmandu valley itself as you get a peek into the city life of Nepal. After which you move on to explore the different landscapes, exquisite culture and lifestyle, moving from the valley to the mountainous region, exploring places like Namche, Gokyo, Dzongla and the Everest region.

We head to the town of Dumja early in the morning alongside the Sunkoshi river. We move through places like Ghurmi following Sunkoshi river and then head to Okhaldhunga. We get to Phapla as we move alongside Dudh Koshi river. Overnight stay at Phaplu.
Our trekking journey starts on this day. We follow the river, Dudh Koshi as we move through pine and rhododendron forests as we pass by Salung village and Ringmo. This area is popular for apricot, peach and apple orchards and is loved for its locally made apple cider. Now we move to Thubten Chhoiling Monastery which has been protecting the tradition and teachings of Buddhism over the decades. From here, we go to the Sherpa village of Junbesi.
On this day we set off for Nunthala; on our way, we will be accompanied by beautiful rhododendron in the trail. This trail moves through the Taksindu Pass (3970 meters). The trail ends at Nunthala for the day as we move past the village and green forest of Kimbu. Overnight stay in Nunthala.
We move through the dense jungle alongside the chirping of birds and sounds of animals as we head to Bupsa Danda where we reach after we cross the Kharikhola village. Kharikhola village is the point of diversion for people trekking to Hinku valley or the Mera Pak (6476 meters). We reach Bupsa Danda (2770 meters) as we hike over the suspension bridge and head onto a steep route.
We head to the Kari La Pass (3080 meters) first thing in the morning. After two hours ascend we reach the top and can enjoy the amazing view of Nambu (6960 meters), Thamserku (6608 meters), Cho Oyu (8188 meters). Finally, we reach Paiya Khola as we trek down through the lush green forest of oak and cross a metal bridge.
Now we trek to Surke as we move through lush green jungle of oak trees en route Paiya La (2945 meters). We will get to enjoy the scenic view of the Khumbu valley and the enormous mountain tops. The, we reach Surke which is located at the bottom of Lukla. Our final destination, the Sherpa Hamlet of Phakding is then reached as we trek along the way with many ups and downs alongside the river, Dudh Koshi. Overnight stay in Phakding.
On this way, we head to Namche Bazar. The trail moves alongside the fast currents of the river and an amazing view of Thamserku on the opposite side. First, we reach Jorsalle which indicates that we have entered the Sagarmatha national park We then move through the trail branched by Dudh Koshi and Bhote rivers on left and right respectively. We walk on the crisscross way to reach Namche.
We stay at Namche for rest and acclimatization; here we can explore the villages of Khumjung and Khunde as we hike there. Khumjung village is in-between the ridge above the sacred mountain of Khumbila (5761 meters) and Namche. We visit the popular monastery of Khumjung where the major attraction is the skull of Yeti. We also go to the Everest View Hotel to see the majestic view of Everest (8849 meters) and the beautiful Ama Dablam. We move to the Khunde Community hospital for exploring it; it was built by Sir Edmund Hilary in the year 1966. We will also take time to study the Hilary Family memorial park which was established in order to honor the work of Sir Edmund Hillary.
On this day, the journey starts with a climb to Khyangjuma village. We move forward to the place named Mong La as we pass through Sherpa village of Sanasa. This pass is below Mt. Khumbila (5761 meters). We finally reach to Dhole en route Mong La and stay there overnight.
We head to Machhermo to the northern side of Dhole. We first reach Lhabarma and then Machhermo. There will be a number of things to see on this trail including the lush green forests, pristine rivers, and snowy peaks.
Our trekking trail moves towards the valley followed by a downhill climb to a river before we climb the Ngozumpa Glacier moraine to reach Gokyo valley. Gokyo is known for the six lakes that are here and for the majestic view of the picturesque mountain peaks. We will get to see the three beautiful lakes namely Longpongo, Taboche Tsho, and Dudh Pokhari; each one has a distinct specialty. After lunch, we head to the fourth lake.
We hike to Gokyo Ri first thing in the morning; we reach there after three hours’ ascent. The scenic beauty of the majestic Himalayas like Everest(8848m), Lhotse (8414m), Cho Oyu (8848m), Chamar (7287m), Nuptse (7861m) and others alongside the enchanting Gokyo Lakes and the enormous Ngozumpa Glacier will feel surreal. We go back to the lodge for breakfast and then set off to Dragnag.
On this day, we move to Dzongla by passing the Chola Pass; it follows a steep trail and crosses the glacial moraine on the east. We head to Phedi to reach Dzongla en route high pass of Cho La (5420 meters). Most of the mountains of Mahalangur Himalayan Range can be viewed from Cho La’s top. We then descend through icy moraines to reach Dzongla.
As we chase the trail following the Changri Glacier alongside the Khumbu Glacier ridges, we get to Gorakshep. We move to Kala Patthar viewpoint where we observe the beautiful sunset. This will certainly be an unforgettable memory for you.
We cross the Khumbu glacier on our way to Everest Base camp as we head up on the rocky ridges. We are going to feel really significant as we stand at the EBC with the world tallest peak over our head. We will then head down to the lodge to eat lunch and descend to Thukla.
We head down to the Sherpa Hamlet of Tengboche first. And we cross lush green forests and Sherpa villages to reach the bank of Imja Khola above which Tengboche village lies. The famous festival Mani Ridmu is observed in the biggest monastery of Khumbu region, located in Tengboche. We will visit this place in the evening and enjoy the mesmerizing mountain vista.
On this day, we will be shifting and going all the way through the tremendous green forests, enjoying the magnificent views of the legendary mountains Nuptse (7861 meters), mountains like Lhotse (8414 meters), Mt. Everest (8848 meters) and the great Ama Dablam (6856 meters) also adorned this place. Overnight stay in Namche.
We will move to the zone with lesser mountains now as we move to Phakding. The trail moves through dense forest and streams.
We descend down to reach Lukla alongside Dudh Koshi river reminiscing the Himalayas, the culture, and beautiful landscape. Overnight stay in Lukla and celebration, for now, the trek has ended.
A half-hour flight from Lukla will bring you back through the marvelous city of Kathmandu, offering the last scene of the incredible and elegant Himalayan background. Upon landing, our team will take you through the great airport to your hotel for the compulsory checking process.
Our complete and final educational tour comes through the great Kathmandu monuments like legendary spots such as the Newari famed landmarks Patan Durbar Square and the famous great architectural structure, Bhaktapur Durbar Square; these sites have to offer and give to its guests. These heritage sites have excellent art and architecture, ancient temples, and detailed intricate wood carvings. You will be captivated by the vibrant local culture and taste delicious Nepali foods all along the way.
We will drive you to the airport as you head to your home country or the next destination.
