Shey Phoksundo Lake Trek

The flight through Kathmandu's streets to Nepalgunj takes around 50 minutes and offers fantastic scenic views of the great Himalayas and the fine Terai plains. Nepalgunj, a busy town near the Indian border, worked as the gateway through the great remote western region on the side of the Nepal kingdom.

The 35-minute flight through the state of Nepalgunj to Juphal gives breathtaking views of the great Himalayas. From Juphal, a 2-3 hour trek leads to Dunai, passing through terraced fields and fine scenic landscapes. Dunai, the district headquarters through the state of Dolpa, is the gateway to the memorable Shey Phoksundo Lake trek.

The trek through the Dunai unto the state of Chhepka (5-6 hours) follows through the Suli Gad River, passing through lush forests and small villages. The trail gradually continues, offering glimpses of diverse flora and fauna with the great Shey Phoksundo National Park.

The trek through the great Chhepka through the Jharana Hotel (5-6 hours) follows a tremendous steep trail through dense pine and rhododendron-filled forests. As the elevation goes on, trekkers get fine views of the cascading waterfalls and the incredible surrounding mountains. Jharana Hotel, a popular stop, offers a spectacular vantage point of the Shey Phoksundo Waterfall.

The trek through the great Jharana Hotel to the fine Shey Phoksundo Lake (3-4 hours) involves a steep descent through rocky trails and lush, delicate vegetation. As trekkers approach the lake, they are rewarded with breathtaking views of the turquoise waters. Shey Phoksundo Lake, surrounded by peaks, is a calm and sacred destination in Dolpo.

The acclimatization and full exploration day through the Shey Phoksundo Lake allows trekkers to adjust to the great altitude while enjoying the pristine beauty. Visitors can also explore the Ringmo village, interact with local people, and visit the very revered Bon monastery. The calm lake, refined landscapes, and surrounding peaks create a delicate setting for relaxation and photography.

The trek starts from the glorious Shey Phoksundo Lake and continues until the Phoksundo Khola (4-5 hours). It follows a more rugged trail through the lake’s edge, giving stunning views. The route moves through rocky terrain and alpine meadows, leading to the tremendously serene Phoksundo Khola campsite.

The trek through the fine Phoksundo Khola to Phoksundo Bhanjyang (6-7 hours) follows a steep and challenging trail through remote high-altitude terrain. Trekkers navigate the acceptable narrow paths, cross all streams, and move toward the Kang La Pass. Phoksundo Bhanjyang, a high camp, offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

The trek through the fine Phoksundo Bhanjyang until Chepka (6-7 hours) has a steep descent through rugged trails and lush-filled forests. As trekkers move on, the landscape transforms, passing through remote villages and pleasing surroundings. Chepka also has a peaceful rest stop, with attractive views of the stunning landscape and the ever-gracious Suli Gad River.

The trek from Chepka to Juphal (5-6 hours) follows a gradual descent through picturesque villages and dense forests. As they approach the Juphal airport, which marks the end of the trek, trekkers enjoy views of the Thuli Bheri River.

The flight from Juphal to Nepalgunj takes around 35 minutes and offers scenic views of the Himalayas. After reaching the great plains of Nepalgunj, a short domestic flight (approximately 50 minutes) takes you back through the wonderful city of Kathmandu. These flights connect remote Dolpa to Nepal's capital, completing the allocated journey through the Himalayas.
