Ramechhap district is one of the best tourist destinations in Nepal, which is well known for its lush forests and its captivating, wondrous beauty. The district is once in a lifetime due to the lovely scenery, such as the Jatapokhari, Paanchpokhari, and Numburchuili mountains.This Nepalese district is also known for its religious and cultural spots like Kanadevi, Khau Gumba and Thodung Monastery. At Ramechhap, the most visited sites are Jatapokhari and Paanchapokhari.Moving on the ramechaap names consist of two words Rame and Chaap. Rame means the name of a person, while Chaap. As per local tradition, the village of Ramechhap was once a homeland called the Tamang community. A Tamang man of the town, who named Ram, was given the role of mukhtiyari (village leader) by royal orders. Also, there is another legend, that the Tamang peoplerear their animals such as goats, buffaloes, etc. in an open ground in this district. Hence word ra is 'goat', mey is 'ox', and chhawa is their offspring; the place of the combined world of ra-mey-chhawa came to be known as "Ramechhap" to the preceding generations of people here. More than 62 per cent of the people are literate. Hence, this district is one of Nepal's well-read population districts.
