Trip Overview
TThe Kathmandu and Lumbini Buddhism tour, thoughtfully made by Accessible Adventures, is an excellent spiritual journey to guide travellers through some of Nepal's significant Buddhist locations. The tour starts in Kathmandu, the vibrant capital of Nepal, where you will also be exploring iconic sites like Swayambhunath, famously known as the great Monkey Temple, situated on a hill offering all city views. The temple is a spiritual site and a place to see Nepalese culture and its incredible history. Through Kathmandu, the tour also heads unto Dhulikhel, an excellent hill town known for its marvelous art, architecture, and stunning views of the majestic Himalayas. Here, you'll go on a short hike at the revered Namobuddha, a site of great significance for thousands of Buddhist pilgrims. Starting your journey, you will also get acquainted with the artistic Bhaktapur and Patan, two ancient medieval cities with several temples, pagodas, and fine squares, rich with several woodwork and metal crafts that tell the story of Nepal's artistic and best spiritual heritage.
The second part of the journey takes you to the great Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha and a famed UNESCO World Heritage site, where you will gain a finer understanding of Buddhism's historical roots. Lumbini is home to many sacred landmarks, such as the Ashoka Pillar, erected by the Indian Emperor Ashoka, to mark the place of Buddha's birth spot. This calm pilgrimage site also sees several stupas, monasteries, and temples, each with rare spiritual significance. Among these, the most notable is the great Maya Devi Temple, where Queen Maya Devi gave birth to the legendary Siddhartha Gautama. As part of the tour, you will also visit the Kopan Monastery, a peaceful haven for those seeking to deepen their meditation practice. Lumbini gives a rare opportunity to explore Buddhism's fine cultural and historical heritage while allowing for quiet reflection in the landscape that has remained remarkably well-preserved for age-old centuries.
